Even The Daily Show needs a fight director
On Wednesday, Jerry Seinfeld appeared on The Daily Show to help Jon Stewart resist the temptation to make obvious jokes, specifically about how Michelle Bachmann’s gay-“curing” husband pings the ol’ gaydar. When Jon went there, Jerry slapped him:
“I don’t believe in half measures, and I don’t know how to stage slap anyway.”
Um, Jerry, that’s not what we mean by “eye contact.” Back to the sketch: comedy comedy comedy, annnnnd again, right in the jaw this time.
“It’s better that it was lower…”
“It’s your bit!”
If you watch the clip, don’t they seem uncomfortable? Doesn’t it interrupt the flow of the piece? I point this out not to be all, ha, they messed up, but I think it’s a good lesson in how awkward it is to hit someone, or get hit, badly — these guys have built careers on being able to get through the most ridiculous things with a straight face, and even they’re thrown off their game. And in a city full of fight directors who would love good seats at the Daily Show!
