Break dancers fight it out at the Royal Opera House
The Soul Mavericks, a London-based dance team and current UK B-Boy Champions, are joining the singers in Julie Weir’s new opera Miss Fortune. The dancers play “Fate’s gang” and are more like “creatures” than people, so between their ethereal roles and the dancers’ conditioning and control, choreographer Ran Arthur Braun was able to create some complex and intensely physical violence. See for yourself at the BBC website, in a video that contains rehearsal footage and interviews with Braun and the dancers.
I’m missing this production by FOUR DAYS. I know I shouldn’t complain about having a prior engagement to go hiking in the north of France, but alas for ships in the night!
